Each one of my courses is based upon TEFL techniques and is developed in association with one of the leading European Teacher Training Centres.

To design each individual course, which can be up to five days, I talk with every applicant and make an assessment of their needs on the basis of a detailed questionnaire (conducted by telephone or e-mail or post).

This assessment is designed to evaluate your needs in relation to vocabulary, pronunciation and appreciation of the English language with particular emphasis on sentence construction and grammar in both conversation and public speaking. In addition I give the greatest priority to each person’s perceived requirements in terms of business and diplomatic English. Lastly all courses concentrate on both spoken and written English according to individual needs.

Before you begin your course you will be invited to discuss the content that has been personally planned for you. Each session during the course will be planned on the basis of the following criteria:

Criteria for each personally designed Course

My first priority is to define the OVERALL GOAL for each participant while he or she is completing a course in North Devon.

Given a clear goal I work to:

  • Decide the objectives for each session (a session will last up to 80 minutes with a break for coffee).
  • Plan the method of teaching/instruction/discussion and debate.
  • Assess approaches and activities.
  • Decide upon materials and visual aids.
  • Ensure variety and balance.
  • Anticipate difficulties and possible problems.
  • Fix date and time of next session.

There will be up to ten separate sessions including at least one visit to a relevant location – bank, office, factory, store etc

Tuition is over a three or four or five day period and may, should you wish, be over a weekend. A number of the sessions will be devoted to non curricular activities when there will be the opportunity to practise and study with other English people.
